Celebrations in South Tyrol: typical celebrations in Gardena Valley

Feast of the Gardenian costumes
This festival is held the first and second Sunday of August since the seventies and is held in rotation at St. Christina, Selva di Val Gardena and Ortisei.

The throw down of flowers
This festival commemorates the throw of children from the mountain cliffs. These children, from the Roman period when King Herod ordered the slaughter of the innocents, were thrown by Roman soldiers but during the flight they turned into flowers.
The event takes place on Dec. 28 and consists of a skiers parade with their traditional costumes who reach the threshold of a cliff to throw flowers.
